Looking for ideas for a gift to make for my sister’s birthday, I came across this image on Pinterest. I lot if searching ( Pinterest is garbage for anything other than just pictures!) I finally found the pattern had come from a book on Bargello quilts.
I coudn’t find anyone with a copy, but my quilting pro MIL did have this book, which I borrowed. It was very helpful in planning my design. There was a lot more involved than I had first thought! But after weeks of trying to puzzle it out myself, the book was really helpful to understand the process.
It even has graph paper to photocopy and plan with.
This was my colour plan, crinkled from being carried to Rathdown Fabrics and Spotlight to find some fabric!
This looks interesting! I hope there will be progress shots to come.
ReplyDeleteWOW go you! I know how much is involved - not game to try myself yet. Hope the quilt and life in general are going well. Look forward to seeing the finished quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies! It took me WEEKS of planning and trying to figure out how the heck to do it! Then the actual sewing only took a week! Although the dog did not like me being out in my sewing room at night, he sat outside the door and chewed up the sticks used at a fence around the herb garden!)
ReplyDeleteThe book really helped, because it explained that you may need to add extra pieces to the top or bottom of the patched strips. All the info I had read online and watched on YouTube only talked about sewing the fabric strips into a tube, then cutting them into the patched strips. Much easier to just fold, cut, then unpick, and add more pieces at the top or bottom as needed!
