Quilt design board

I have read on craft blogs about people trying out patterns on a " design board". I realized a few months ago that I actually had something I could use! 
I had made a portable pin board/ display board for work a few years ago, made from corflute boards (old real estate boards) gaffa taped together, and covered with sturdy pin board fabric (which can be used for velcro backed cards too). 
The sturdy fabric takes pins well, so I can pin strips of fabric on to play around with colours - and after all, isn't that the best part of making a quilt?

    It really does help to have somewhere you can pin things up and look at them. Love your stripes!

      Thanks Vireya, it is amazing how much easier it is to work out patterns using the board! I have now sewn up the top of the first quilt and have 2 more tops cut out ready to sew.

    You will love this! I love mine - a piece of leftover pinboard from hubby's work backed onto white board so it is multi purpose and moveable. I also use mine to baste my quilts so I can get around all the edges. I put the pinboard side down on the island bench, add the quilt layers one at a time and keeping tight between adding with huge bull dog clips. Then I pin baste. So much easier on the knees and back! Wasn't my idea found it on youtube.

    I do love how the latest creation is coming together. You will be wiping up quilts in no time now.

      Thanks Vicki! The photo popped up on my fb feed as being from about 5 years ago, so I figured it was time for a change!
      I like the idea of using the board to baste quilts too, mine is not quite big enough but I will be using it now- thanks for the tip! I usually spread the quilt out on the bad with a couple of big sheets of mdf under it ( mdf sheets live under the couch, still there from when the kids used to use them for LEGO, cars and train sets!)

    So good to discover you had something you could use all along. It looks like a really practical way to sort out designs while keeping everything neat and in the right place.

    By the way, I love your new banner image! You can't go wrong with a 201K and a budgie.
